Le groupe psyché-pop londonien The Chemistry Set
n'est pas né d'hier. Les premières productions de
ces vétérans de la scène psychédélique
anglaise fin 80ies ont été remarquées par
John Peel qui le sa plusieurs fois programmées (Peel
est même allé jusqu'à rédiger une lettre
manuscrite pour signifier au groupe son admiration), régulièrement
chroniquées dans la presse musicale overground, et enfin
entrées dans les charts indie.
Le groupe est resté silencieux pendant un long hiatus...
jusqu'à ce que Paul Lake et Dave Mclean ne réveillent
magistralement en 2008. Un retour qui coïncida
avec l'apparition de leur album inédit "Sounds
Like Painting" (1989) sur de nombreux blogs MP3, et
cumulant plus de 10,000 téléchargement !
En 2009 Lake et Mclean (épaulés par
quelques complices musiciens) on repris le chemin des studios pour
enregistrer le mini album "Alchemy#101"
sur un île au milieu de la Tamise, en n'utilisant que des
instruments vintage, mais enregistrant sur "pro-tools"
- mixant sons vintage et modernes. Le mixage a été
amoureusement fignolé durant trois mois avec le producteur
indie espagnol Manel Ibáñez.

"Doldrums" - nouvel album

Une nouvelle collection de chansons planante s composée pendant les deux dernières années. Cet album a été enregistré et produit à Toulouse, et masterisé par Dan Coutant chez West West Side Music à New York.
Cachalot Midinette est une entité "petite soeur" de Dead Bees, qui publiera les nouveaux projets de Sébastien Duclos, en cd-r artisanaux et en téléchargement.
D'autres artistes viendront bientôt rejoindre le catalogue Cachalot Midinette.
Après une impressionnante série de très bon
EP, des titres remarqués sur nos compilations, The
December Sound (Boston/New York) présentent enfin "The
Silver Album" - un trip de 13 titres noisy psychédéliques.
Un album qui entend mélanger rock hyper énergique et basses assourdissantes, pour le plus grand plaisir de vos tympans. Les textes abordent sexe, sorcellerie, le grand cornu, et le plaisir du gros son...
Ca faisait quelques temps que nous suivions les avancées
de Cobson, un récent
concert nous a permit de réaliser à quel point ce
groupe de Montpellier devenait une perle brute à faire découvrir
urgence.
Le nouveau "Bike EP", faisant
suite au premier EP éponyme épuisé,
est désormais disponible.

London Psychedelic-Pop band The Chemistry Set have
quite a history. Veterans of the late 80s neo-psychedelic boom,
their music received regular airplay on John Peel's
show (Peel went so far as to sending the band a hand-written fan
letter), featured in the mainstream and underground music press,
indie top 20 and toured worldwide. The band appeared on the late,
legendary Tony Wilson's television show, who was
a huge fan of the band.
They took a bit of a hiatus, remaining silent … until Paul
Lake and Dave Mclean remarkably reappeared in 2008.
Their return came about when their unreleased LP from 1989 "Sounds
Like Painting" was uploaded onto various blogs and
was downloaded over 10,000 times!
In 2009 Lake and Mclean (along with a little help
from some musical friends) returned to the laboratory and recorded
the mini album "Alchemy#101" in a studio
on an island in the middle of the River Thames, using vintage instruments
but recorded it to "pro-tools" to get a great mix of vintage
and modern sounds. It was then lovingly mixed and produced over
3 months by the Spanish indie producer Manel Ibáñez.
Long time friends and occasional flatmates, Elsa and Joel started
playing these songs a long while back. Couch potatoes slow sad folk
is their middle name.

- a 13 tracks trip into noisy psychedelic drone.
This album pretends to mix high energy rock'n'roll and excessive low frequencies loudness for the instant pleasure of your eardrums. lyrics are about sex, witchcraft, my friend the Devil that makes me look glad, low ridin', maximum level sound pressure...
We've been paying attention to Cobson's
work for a while now. After attending one of its latest gigs we
could not do anything but realize that this Montpellier-based band
has turned into a genuine rough diamond, worth being exposed to
the ears of the world.
The new "Bike EP", follow-up to
the previous s/t EP, is now available.
